Doctor
allegedly guns down neighbors in front of their kids

A
family doctor in Texas allegedly gunned down a couple of neighbors who were
helping his mother move furniture – as the victims’ children watched in horror.
Robert
Edward Fadal II, a family practice physician in Seguin, is accused of using a
rifle to fatally shoot Tiffany Leann Strait, 30, and her husband, Anthony Ray
Strait, 27, as they were helping Fadal’s mother move furniture early Sunday at
the doctor’s gated residence, the Seguin Gazette reports.
Investigators
were still puzzled over what sparked the shooting, which occurred in front of
the Straits’ three sons, the eldest of whom is just 10 years old.
“At
this time, there are no indications there was a feud, disturbance, or anything
precipitating or justifying the shooting,” Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Lt. Craig
Jones told the newspaper. “There is no indication that there was a dispute
between the victims and suspect. We’re still working to understand why this
took place.”
Anthony
Strait was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was taken to a nearby
hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Law
enforcement sources told KSAT that Fadal, 56,
suddenly turned on the couple and shot them with a rifle in front of their kids
for “no apparent reason.” Investigators believe the Straits had been helping
Fadal’s mother with the use of their truck when Fadal exited the home and
opened fire.
“In
cases like this, where we don’t always understand the why of what goes on in
our communities, it’s a reminder that evil exists out there,” Jones told the
station.
Neighbor
Rudy Soto said he heard six shots early Sunday from outside the home.
“I
heard this voice … ‘Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!’” Soto told KSAT. “Then I
heard two more shots, and the voice stopped.”
Soto
said he’s known Anthony Ray Strait for decades and characterized him as “one of
the nicest” people he knew.
“It’s
just a big tragedy that happened, and I really don’t know what’s going to come
of it,” Soto said.
The
Straits, according to a Facebook profile, ran Strait “A” Landscaping in Seguin.
“The
greatest loss will be forever felt by their entire family as well as their 3
young sons, with the oldest being 10 years old,” the website reads. “We love
them dearly and want to do whatever we can to help them.”
Anthony
Strait’s brother, James Strait, said he just wants to know why his brother was
killed — and hopes Fadal meets the same fate as his brother.
“He
was a good man,” James Strait told KABB. “He didn’t
deserve this … I hope [Fadal] gets the same thing he gave my brother.”
Fadal
remained held on $2 million bail Tuesday on a charge of capital murder of
multiple persons, jail records show. He has been practicing for nearly three
decades and graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San
Antonio, according to the San Antonio
Express-News, citing Jones and public records.
