Custer died here, battles with Indian tribes in the 1870s were fought here, Army forts, covered wagons, men and women, families passed through and became a part of the books, films, and television shows which were made based on what took place here: the old American West comes alive and remains a standard bearer for many of the events that formed a nation, developed its character and has been a part of its evolution.
